Her Art is driven by the constant search for the new, the unknown, the alien.
Powerful colors and varied materials are superimposed on her painted thoughts,
covering them like an inner secret, hiding them from plain sight.
The tension between secrecy and the promise of revelation that runs through
her paintings is also present in Niehoff's experimental drawings, where masks,
grotesque shapes and writings seem to grasp for the viewer, yet leaving it open
what she can expect to find in the depth of the image.
Her knowledge of the time to pass, of everyday’s joy and pain, her compassion
to the great and the tiny are themes of her art.
The artist's dynamic dialogue with the canvas captures the power of the anarchic
and the riotous; yet she also shows us the fleeting moment of balance in the flow
of unrestraint energy. The inner and the outer, the foreign and the familiar are
driving forces in the artist's paintings. Aware that neither force can persist
without its opposite, Niehoff achieves to create distance to the memories that haunt her.
The real and the surreal are no longer clearly distinct.
She invites the viewer to see through and beyond her paintings, to find ambiguities
and to participate in the adventurous discovery of the new, the unknown.
